STEYR Motors specializes in heavy-duty engines for a wide range of applications, including light commercial and military vehicles, as well as stationary power plants. One of the key features of STEYR MONOBLOCK engines is their exceptional robust cooling behavior, which allows them to operate reliably even with poor fuel quality. This has earned the STEYR MONOBLOCK engine family a unique reputation among vehicle manufacturers and operators around the world. The high-pressure STEYR multi-fuel injection system is another standout feature of the STEYR MONOBLOCK engines. Equipped with a two-stage injection nozzle and capable of up to 2000 bar injection pressure, this system has been specifically designed to operate with a variety of diesel fuels, including diesel (F54, DIN EN 590), kerosene (JP8/F34), and maritime diesel fuel (DMA, DME). To ensure the engines can continue to operate in the event of electronic engine management failure, the STEYR MONOBLOCK engines also come with an optional pure mechanical "limp home" capability, thanks to their unique design and material selection.

  • Multi Fuel Capability
    Military and commercial operations often require the ability to operate on a diverse range of fuels, especially in scenarios where regular diesel fuel may not be available due to combat operations or scarcity. Thankfully, STEYR MOTORS diesel engines have been purposefully developed to accommodate multi-fuel usage. The engines are designed and constructed with specific materials that enable them to operate efficiently on a variety of fuel types, including Diesel (F54, EN 590ff), Kerosene (JP8 / F34), and Maritime Diesel fuel. To ensure their reliability with low-lubricity fuels like Jet A-1 and JP-8, the factory conducted extensive tests on the engines, comparing ratings for different fuel types and documenting their dependability. This remarkable fuel versatility is largely due to the innovative two-stage mechanical unit injection system of the STEYR MOTORS diesel engine, which has been the cornerstone of its design since its launch in 1990. Compared to common rail injectors, this design offers many benefits and enables the engine to run on a wide range of distillate grades, particularly when used in conjunction with the fuel density kit.

This system provides critical engine information that can be accessed through a diagnostic tool for onboard troubleshooting, ensuring any issues can be addressed quickly and efficiently.
  • Auxillary Power
    The STEYR MOTORS 2-cylinder diesel engine is a versatile choice for both civil and military applications, particularly in auxiliary power generation. With its compact size and robust design using STEYR MOTORS technology, the 2 cylinder is ideal for applications requiring a portable and quiet engine, such as mobile power generators, forklifts, and hydraulic pump stations. It can also be used for off-grid power, providing assistance and confidence within a hybrid system to ensure power is always available when needed most. In addition, the 2 cylinder can be developed to work with industry solar controllers, such as SMA, to seamlessly switch between renewable energy sources and dependable sourced power, saving operational costs and ensuring peace of mind. It is one of the few engines of its size that is controlled by an ECU, allowing for remote monitoring and maintenance. In the event of natural disasters or remote locations requiring temporary power, the M12 can quickly and easily power portable emergency relief and communication centers. The military can also rely on the 2 cylinder to service power needs during standby periods, even for legacy vehicles that lack existing capabilities. Adaptation and placement studies are needed to create a readymade solution for the market, including external fastening options and modular concepts for Porto-cabins.
