Cristal Mining recently upgraded their STEYR Motors engines from the old MO style to the new SE range. The company operates a service barge for a mineral sands dredge in a Murray Basin Sand Mine. Interestingly, the company produces Zircon and Titanium which is used in the manufacturing of toothpaste and confectionary products.
After years of faithful service, the MO engines were in need of an upgrade and the company chose to move to the SE196,190Hp diesel engine. The custom built vessel is a steel construction and at a length of 9 metres, weighs 12000kg fully loaded. The barge is also fitted Mercruiser Bravo II Drives allowing for ease of coming into shore.
